11.11. in Paris

°

In Germany the 11th of November at 11:11 o'clock
is the start of the carnival season, especially in Cologne.

In France this day is an official holiday, at least you do not
work, only the shops are open, so go shopping.

But before shopping follow the official ceremonies on tv.

Monsieur Macron concentrating.

President Emmanuel Macron led tributes on Thursday to the last French
Resistance fighter from World War II who died last month and will be
buried with a cross carved from the wood of Notre-Dame cathedral.

Hubert Germain, who was the last surviving Resistance fighter honoured
by late Free France leader Charles de Gaulle, died aged 101in October.

His coffin, draped in the French flag, was carried up the Champs-Élysées
on an armoured vehicle to the Arc de Triomphe, where Macron and
visiting US Vice President Kamala Harris paid their respects.

The Armistice of 11 November 1918 was the armistice signed at Le
Francport near Compiègne that ended fighting on land, sea and air in
World War I between the Allies and their last remaining opponent, Germany.

Many streets and bridges were closed for public.
Many big black cars escorted by police were cruising in the city.

Walking in Paris was wonderful, with the sunny weather.

Getting closer to ...

... bikers? No, no, no ... closer to the ...

... the Louvre.
But it was not our destination.

Bourse de Commerce, Pinault Collection
was the place to visit, tickets booked ahead.

Such an interesting building.

Here you can see how the architect Tadao Ando
put a concrete circle into the middle of the building.

ando’s concrete cylinder takes the form of a nine meter-high wall that spans
30 meters (almost 100 feet) in diameter. four identical openings provide
access and allow natural light to illuminate the space. ‘this cylinder will
give shape to the central exhibition space under the cupola and encase
the auditorium and foyer below ground,’ explained ando when the project was revealed.

In the main hall there is this round area with an exhibition
of wax sculptures which are slowly but surely melting.

Because they are like big candles.

The installation is a monument to impermanence, transformation,
the passage of time, metamorphosis, and creative destruction.

Weird objects as art.

The upstairs galleries are large and show paintings,
sculptures, photographs. And nice views.
Another must for your next Paris' trip!

Yes, walking in Paris, from the Pinault Collection
to the sunny Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre.
And we were not the only tourists there, I tell you!

Maybe this holy guy will keep corona away.

Again, I tell you, they know in Paris how to handle
the camouflage of the building sites!

Av. de Champs-Élysée decorated on this day of Armistice.
Next day the pink Paris Photo things were hanging there again.

The birthday dinner, very French.

Next day walking tour to the shopping area.
Galeries Lafayette, the store with this amazing cupola.
The Christmas decoration ... well ... maybe it looks
lovely when the tiny lights are on. Hopefully.

You actually do not need to inside these shopping temples,
the look fantastic already outside.
And they are full of customers. Yes, wearing face masks.
But really, did everybody forget corona?
