Bye bye pine trees

°

Grasshoppers used to be a real threat in the Biblic times.

We had this pine drama already a couple of years ago when a strong storm
broke a couple of pine trees in down town Artá. A few trees had to be removed.
Now no weather damage has occurred but the old trees just have to go.
Sicherheitsrisiko.

Work started.

Slowly but surely.

If trees could fly.

Check check all that wood ... not only for burning.

For the record.

Next to the tourist information. For the record.

Nää automaattiset käännökset on kerrassaan huvittavia.

This is the time of the year when the evening sun really
creates beautiful moments.

Well, early afternoon sun can be cool, too.
Here a view over Capdepera.

The pomegranates keep on ripening.

And the snakes keep on ... well, they try to cross our campo
but our garden help was faster!

Snake skin can be decorative.

Here a detail of a sculpture of oak tree.

Local pleasures

°

Summer and corona in Mallorca.
The heat is on, siesta is compulsory in the afternoons.
Meeting friends in the evenings.

Fine dining in the neighboring village, St. Llorenç de Carcassar.
Es Pati is a cosy restaurant run by a German couple.
They only serve fixed menu, which can be challenging ...
... for persons whose eating habits are limited.
But if you tell the kitchen early enough about
your limitations there is now problem at all.
I was very happy how they handled my food!

The restaurant was fully booked so it was quite impossible
to make any decent pics.
Our group was brilliantly seated on the patio,
some people had to stay indoors and
the rest were seated on the tiny street.
Check them in Facebook and their website for further infos:

Reservations needed.

Achtung Achtung

Masks needed as of today. All over on the Balearic Islands.
Almost all time and everywhere.
Kind of driving the tourists crazy, many Germans cancelling
their holidays - and that is not good for the tourism industry.
Let's see how long this will take.

Seen today on the road ... poor thing. Flat as flat can be.
Yes, it was a snake.

Actually  quite decorative. The flat head part.
It was lying on its back, by the way.

In the close by township Capdepera there are a couple of
nice things, restaurants and shops, which you have to get to know.
This Vuelta Alto boutique is specialized in kind of
happy hippi clothing, accessories and jewelry.
I like the idea that many products are designed by Majorcan designers.
Price-wise middle range.

Kleine Schlangenkunde

°
This is quite a big snake, I would say.
I tell you, there is another one, as well, but it was
too fast for my foto session. Disappeared under the stones.

Look at the mighty body!

And the tiny tail!

Trepadora? yes, it can climb.
Like along trees, walls ... hello!
And it can become one meter 85 cm long. Hello again!

horseshoe whip snake

Remember the one one the left side?
We found it on the 1st of January in 2016.
So ... we are used to these climbers!

In internet you find a lot of information of snakes.
Never thought of this:
While not commonly thought of as food in most cultures, in others
the consumption of snakes is acceptable, or even considered a delicacy.
Snake soup of Cantonese cuisine is consumed by locals in autumn, to
warm up their body. Western cultures document the consumption of
snakes under extreme circumstances of hunger. (Wiki)

Snakes really enjoy the sun. I wonder what they did yesterday.
There was such a heavy rainstorm over Mallorca.

It rained heavily, we had little lakes everywhere.
And at six in the evening the sun came out again.

Lucky us, in Manacor they had not only heavy rains but hails, too.
