In the center of the old town Pollença stands the Església Parroquial
Mare de Déu des Àngels.
Half of the not so decorative facade is behind some other buildings,
and some renovation work is being done, too.
You cannot miss the church as it lies in the corner of the main square.

but now we continue our tour in Pollença.
This church is huge and now decorated for Christmas.

Majorcan artist Joan Bennàssar you already know from my
earlier postings. Now his sculptures are decorating the famous
stairs in Pollença, the 365-step stairway north of the church square.
That stairways leads up to a chapel on top of the hill known as Calvary.
"Human Reasons” addresses the essentially fragile nature of the future,
highlighting the ties that bind humans. It is a synthesis between two spaces,
the Calvary and the Convent church: one raises us to the heights inhabited
by the tribulations and triumphs of the heart, whilst the other takes us into
the labyrinth of public affairs and laws. Yet now more than ever, both reflect
the quest to answer the principal questions that surround the human being.

This impressive stairway consists of 365 steps, one for each day of the year,
and is flanked by cypress trees and fourteen three-metre-high crosses, evoking
the ordeal that, according to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ suffered on the
way to his crucifixion on Mount Golgotha.

The church was closed, so we have to visit Mount Calvari again.
