Lauttasaarikin

°

Lauttasaari, an island belonging to Helsinki.

Such a nice residential area.

Let's ask Wikipedia:

Lauttasaari is primarily a residential area but also contains services,
including several marinas and canoe clubs. Although close to the city centre,
Lauttasaari has not been entirely built up. Notably, almost the entire shoreline
remains in public use, with footpaths, beaches, playgrounds, patches of
forest, and rocky outcrops.

The name Lauttasaari literally means "ferry island", although nowadays,
the island is connected to the rest of Helsinki and to the city of Espoo by
bridges, causeways, and the Helsinki metro, which has two stations in the district.

Indeed, such amazing summer scenery.

So typical for Helsinki.

Sunbathing.

Even a real beach!

Why Lauttasaari?
Because had some business to be done.
This famous photographer is living there.
Gonna purchase some fine artworks from him.
Interested, too?

Kuusisaaren helmet

 °

All these islands belong to Helsinki.
Kuusisaari and Lehtisaari are some quite exclusive residential areas.
Many Embassies are located on the islands, too.

Kuusisaari.

Finnisch für Anfänger:

KUUSI = Fichte / spruce

SAARI = Insel / island

There are also two quite interesting art exhibitions.

In their webpage they say:

Villa Gyllenberg offers meaningful experiences of
beauty, knowledge and mindful presence.

Yes, the Gyllenberg family lived in this house.

The art collection of the Signe and Ane Gyllenberg Foundation
includes mainly Finnish art works. Isaac Wacklin’s Portrait of a Man (1756)
is one of the oldest pieces, and Juhani Linnovaara’s surrealistic paintings,
done in the 1960's, among the latest. The so called golden age of Finnish art
and modernism are well represented. Nearly 40 works of Helene Schjerfbeck
form the museum’s biggest collection of an individual artist.

Hey, this is a real RODIN!
Eternal Springtime, bronze.
WOW

Kari Juva: Kuulitko.

Väinö Aaltonen: Indian Sinchi.

Akseli Gallen-Kallela: Beggar Boy
Essi Renvall: Hannu

In the new wing there was a special exhibition:

Eastern Spirituality

Answers to the challenges of today's hectic lives are often sought
in yoga, meditation, trips to the East Asia and homes decorated with
images of Buddha. This exhibition provides an art and cultural
historical overview of how 'Eastern spirituality' has been imagined
in Finnish art from the late 19th century to the 1990’s.

Above in the pic works of Outi Heiskanen.

Rudolf Koivu: Wonder's Wonder I

Off we went to the second exhibition hause on the island.

DIDRICHSEN

The collection of around one thousand artworks in the Didrichsen
Art Museum is a result of active collecting during several decades.
The majority of the works have been acquired by museum founders
Gunnar and Marie-Louise Didrichsen for their personal enjoyment.
They started collecting in the 1940s and the choices reflect their artistic
tastes, which is evident even today in the exhibition programme.
After the founders passed away, most of the new acquisitions
have been made from exhibitions organised at the museum.

When entering the premises Henry Moore is greeting you.
OMG

Henry Moore indeed.

The building as such is also very interesting.
Architect Viljo Rewell.

The first part of the house was completed in 1957 as the home
for the Didrichsen family. Later Revell designed an extension for
the growing art collection. The museum wing was completed in 1964.

The collecting couple seen by the Finnish sculptor
Laila Pullinen.

Another work by Laila Pullinen.

Yes, Giacometti. WOW.

Yes, Dali. WOW WOW.

Juhani Linnovaara: Naisen muotokuva.

Another Henry Moore. WOW.

Yes, Henry Moore as well!

And where did the money come from?
From business, naturally.
Transmeri is an import company still going strong.

Transmeri products from older days.

In the garden there are many more sculptures to be wondered.

Check the webpage for all of them, well done, must say.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the foundation,
the 120th anniversary of Gunnar's (1903–1992) birth and
the 110th anniversary of Marie-Louise's (1913–1988) birth.
The couple will also be represented in the exhibition
through material selected from the museum's archives.

Check the internet pages for both collections,
there are language options, go ahead.
I only posted a few pics of the art works.

Vahva suositus.

Aalto Rovaniemellä

°

On my way back from Sodankylä to Helsinki
I had to pass Rovaniemi.
Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland. I guess.
Well, there is an airport, Santa Claus Center and ...
a library designed by world famous Finnish architect
Alvar Aalto.

In addition to Seinäjoki, the Administrative and Cultural Centre in
Rovaniemi is the only city plan designed by Alvar Aalto that has been
realized in Finland. The three buildings comprising the Aalto Center
– the library, the Lappia Hall and the City Hall – are situated around
a spacious, elongated area. The library was the first to be completed
in 1968. The Lappia Hall was completed in 1975, and it became to be
the last building whose completion Aalto witnessed before his passing.
The city hall was completed in 1986, under plans finalised by Aalto’s
architect wife Elissa Aalto.

The buildings are connected by their facade materials such as light
tiles and ceramic tiles. The original materials for the interiors of the
buildings were carefully selected too, as was the furniture and lighting.

Let's step in - it is actually the only sight which
you can visit on a Monday. Like everywhere.
These door handles are one of those typical Aalto-thingies.

The library is actually prepared for tourists.
When you enter you pick up a piece of paper with
a tour through the library introducing specific design
objects like lamps, chairs and the catering trolly above in the pic.

Lehtisali AINO - reading room AINO.
On a sunny Monday there were a few "customers" in
the library, of course I had to avoid getting them in my pics.

In the library there also is an exhibition space.
Found there this statement.

Visit Rovaniemi city, visit the Aalto library and other sights.
Santa Claus only if you're traveling with kids.

Best of Oderazzi's Sodankylä Midnight Sun Film Festival

 °

Here some pics of my trip to

SODANKYLÄ MIDNICHT SUN FILM FESTIVAL.

ELOKUVA-ALAN asiantuntija Peter von Bagh kirjoittaa
Sodankylän elokuvajuhlien 25-vuotishistoriikissa, että festivaali on
kahden valon välistä dialogia.

Kyse on oikeastaan kahdesta luonnonvalosta: filmin elävästä valosta
ja laskemattoman auringon luomasta spektristä, johon astuu jokaisen
näytöksen jälkeen. Aurinko ei laske milloinkaan, mutta valo muuttaa
muotoaan. Kymmenen jälkeen illalla valonsäteet hehkuvat
punaisina ihmisten kasvoilla.

Metsän siimeksessä ohjaaja Aki Kaurismäki, yksi festarien perustajista.

I was so lucky to stay in a hotel.
And had my own sauna - but no time to use it.

The big tent.

Ticket sales. Kitisen koulun kyljessä lipunmyynti.

Kaljateltta? No tent but the combined bar and food court.

Festivaalien vaikein elokuvannimi.

Typical festival set up: Film crew telling things about their movie.

Aavistus kansainvälistä elokuvafestaritunnelmaa:
shamppanjabileitä kylillä.

Ison teltan jono noin kymmeneltä illalla.

German film history expert Mr. Müller introducing the French
director Emmanuel Mouret. Saw two of his funny French films.

Ordnung muss sein.
Jos ei järjestyksessä pysytä tulee paikallinen musta
maija korjaamaan talteen. Rekkari. LUU 5
😂

The river runs through Sodankylä.

Kitisen Kino.

SPEECH KARAOKE!

Sing along in the big tent.

Sing along!

Sun over Sodankylä at half past two at night.

Musician Tuure Kilpäläinen lining up for movie tickets.

ROSEBUD traditionally selling books.

Sodankylä charm.

Documentary by Mika Kaurismäki.

Maustetytöt ja täti.

Tämä kuukausiliitteen haastattelu sai mut innostumaan
Sodikseen menosta tänä vuonna.

Porttikosken tunnelmaa.

Tanssilavalla esiintyi mm. Olavi Uusivirta.

Tulitikkutehtaan tyttö valkokankaalla ja äänessä Maustetytöt.

Professori Pallasvaara luennoi arkkitehtuurista
Hitchcockin Köysi-elokuvassa. Mieltsiä.

Kyllä, keskustelua käydään sekä Suomessa että
yhteispohjoismaisesti.

Katse takaisin Cannesiin.

Jussi Vatanen siinä Alma Pöystin vieressä, sitten Tommi Korpela.

Iso teltta on iso.
The big tent was crowded when Fallen Leaves had
thi Finnish first screening.

Vatanen, Pöysti, Kaurismäki, Malmi.

Hesari Cannesin jälkeen.
Ehkä Akikin tarvitsee Cannesia, kun noin naurattaa.

Melkein huomaamatta hipsi paikalle Isom Alanko.

Mika Kaurismäen dokkari Hassisen koneen juhlakonsertista
oli myös huikea, ja sing along erikoisnäytöksessä sai
taas laulaa.

Sunnuntain supersuosittu LEFFARAATI, missä mukana
Johanna Vuoksenmaa, Olavi Uusivirta, Iida Simes, Neil Hardwick
 ja vetäjänä Ville Virtanen.
Rohkeita lyhytelokuvia ruodittiin moneen suuntaan.

Sodiksen oikea leffateatteri Lapinsuu.

Real food from Lapland.

Last screening on Sunday evening, a lot of space in the big tent.

Katsomani leffat:
Palimpsest, Diary of a Fleeting Affair,
Cinéma Laika, Ruusujen aika,
Hassisen kone 40 vuotta myöhemmin,
Mielensäpahoittaja eskorttia etsimässä,
Universumin kaiut - Kaija Saariahon musiikki,
Tulitikkutehtaan tyttö elokuvakonsertti,
Kuolleet lehdet, Hassisen kone karaokenäytös,
Smoke Sauna Sisterhood, Sydämen asiat
