Giants in Alcudia

°

Touring the island of Mallorca with Finnish friends.

The spit of land called Cap de Formentor(Formentor cape) is located in the
Pollença municipality on the northernmost tip of the island of Majorca. It is
a narrow 20-kilometre-long peninsula which the Majorcans affectionately
call the ‘meeting point of the winds’.

Honestly, the views from the lighthouse are not that spectacular.
And it takes forever before you can get a parking space.
There are better views from the viewpoint earlier on the way.

Fantastic views along the narrow route.

Not bad. Shot from the moving car.

No, these are no Finns, the are the Giants of Mallorca.

In the old town of Alcúdia there was a gathering of the giants.
Looks pretty international.

Check this, those. faces look pretty similar. Twins marrying twins?
Papers on the ground tells that one couple comes from
Llucmajor and the other from Sant Llorenç.

Get the feeling how tall they are.

I presume that almost in every town there is a club,
like the carnival clubs in Germany, that makes those
historical giants and shows them around.

BTW, such a cool t-shirt.

Such fun for a Saturday afternoon in Alcúdia.

Alcúdia is a municipality and township of the Spanish autonomous community
of the Balearic Islands. It is the main tourist centre in the North of Majorca
on the eastern coast. It is a large resort popular with families. Most of the hotels
are located in Port d'Alcúdia and Platja d'Alcúdia, along the 14 km (8.7 mi) long
beach that stretches all the way to Ca'n Picafort. In Alcúdia, the old town is well
preserved with houses dating back to the 13th century. The old town is
surrounded by a medieval wall. (Wikipedia)

Walking along the old town wall is a must in Alcúdia.

😎

Introduction in Spanish:

Quite an impressive change of the weather,
We kind of voluntarily got stuck in Colònia de Sant Pere while
watching the blizzards on the opposite site of the bay.
Quite a mighty thunderstorm took place in Pollença, probably.

Colonia de Sant Pedro is a small town at northeast coast of Majorca.
It belongs to Artà municipality. It lies in the bay of Alcúdia. At the beginning,
in the 19th century, it used to be a small settlement focused on agriculture
and fishing, resident by just a few families. Currently it is a very popular
destination for tourists from abroad and local people as it is very small,
quiet town and thanks to its location at the sea. (Wikipedia)

PS. next time in Pollença remember to visit the big church
Església Parroquial Mare de Déu dels Àngels.

The decoration there is pretty awesome.

Even the floor is decorated.

The rooster seems to play an important role in Pollença.

This photo does no credit, have to come back and take
more time, maybe even the bigger camera with me.
