December curiosities

Birthday.


Not mine, and I did not bake, neither did my friend.
But she made this traditional cake for her daughter.

Finnisch für Anfänger:

MARENKIKAKKU = Baisertorte / meringue cake

Maybe that was the fashion in Helsinki, I grew up in Vantaa.
Never had this kind of cake.
But can have it again, one day, was pretty good.


I find the Spanish Christmas trees every year curious.
Espcecially in the day time.
Check this tree in Artá.


Well, these pine cones do reflect some Christmas feeling.
And I tell you, there are millions of pine cones lying along
the streets after the heavy winds.


At the flea market in Artá this set of cups draw my attention.
Looks very, very much like the Finnish unikko design of Marimekko.
But not really. No, definitely no. This is a no-name brand.


Even if the colours of my cushions are fading,
the original unikko design has certain attributes.
I think we Finns always recognize the original.
Design by Maija Isola 1964.

Unikko (poppy), symbolizing creativity, was born in a time when hardly 
any floral designs were included in Marimekko’s collections. 
Maija Isola, however, was fascinated by the theme of flowers and 
decided to create an entire range of novel floral prints.

As well as this little snake. A young one, I would say. 
Pretty thin. A pretty thing.

This year our grapefruit tree produced 4 grapefruits.
First one tested: super tasty!


The green ones: fruit of our acca tree!

Acca is a genus of shrubs and small trees in the family Myrtaceae 
that is native to Bolivia and Peru.

You remember these pretty flowers from May.

And now ...?

Die reife Frucht kann wie eine Kiwi gegessen werden. Der Vitamingehalt 
der Früchte ist sehr hoch, ebenso der Jodgehalt. Feijoa eignet sich zur Herstellung 
von Kompott, und auch vorzüglich für die Herstellung von Brotaufstrich. Fein 
zerkleinert, mit Zucker vermischt und in Gläser abgefüllt, hält sich das Fruchtmus 
problemlos im Kühlschrank viele Wochen. Man kann die Früchte auch bis zu 
einem Jahr ohne Qualitätsverlust einfrieren. - DANKE WIKIPEDIA!
