Island hopping

°

It was: bye bye Mallorca for four days!
Tämä on nyt tätä korona-ajan kotimaanmatkailua.

Approaching the west coast of Menora.
Yes, the island is flat, hardly any mountains there.
Its highest point, called El Toro or Monte Toro, is 358 metres above sea level.

Am pretty sure that most of my fans know exactly where to locate Menorca.
If not, this Wikipedia map will help.
The biggest island in the middle is Mallorca.
The other on the left is Ibiza, and next to it Formentera.

In this post we start from the beginning: Talayotic Menorca.
Yes, prehistory stuff, pretty boring and boring pics.
But those Talayotic sights are many on the island.

One of those villages from ... many, many years ago as a drawing.
And the only one we visited.

The arrival of the earliest human communities to the Balearic Islands came later than on other Mediterranean islands, in the 3rd millennium BC during the Early Bronze Age.

Finnisch für Anfänger:

PRONSSIAIKA = Bronzezeit / Bronze Age
PRONSSI = Bronze / bronze
HOPEA = Silber / silver
KULTA = Gold / gold

This is pretty amazing.

The archaeological area of Talatí de Dalt is one of the island’s most emblematic,
thanks in part to its excellent state of conservation and its peculiar taula.
It is composed of a Talayotic settlement and a necropolis of artificial caves,
where both funeral rites and burials took place, as well as a taula sanctuary,
sections of walls, Talayotic dwellings and several rooms with columns and stone roofs.
This is considered a medium-sized settlement, where at the height of its occupation
was home to around 100 individuals.

You just use your imagination to see the house ...

Some "houses" you may enter.

Yes, it looks like a house. Kind of.

The first stable human population in Menorca belonged to the cultural trends typical of
Western Europe in the 3rd millennium BC. Their most visible trait can be found in their
use of megaliths, with constructions made from sizeable vertically placed stones.

My favourite pic.
Read more here, it is a pretty well done website:

In my next porting I'll introduce to you the modern Menorca,
including city views and ... food pics!!!
