First town Ciutadella

 °

Superfast Ferry from Acludia/Mallorca to Ciutadella/Menorca.
One hour and fifteen minutes, plus boarding time 1,5 hours at the harbour.

In Menorca many houses, especially the farm houses are painted white.
Unfortunately we did not find good spot for taking pics of those houses.
This old windmill is in the town of Ciutadella.

Our tiny boutique hotel was in the old town.
On the opposite site there was a construction site and next door
the house was for sale, the turquoise lade on the balcony
attracted many tourists, such a popular photo hot spot.

Art.

Menorca is also THE island with the cows, yes we did see
some along the road but could not find any good spots for taking pics.
Honestly, you all know how cows look like, don't you.

Finnisch für Anfänger:

LEHMÄ = Kuh / cow

Menorca’s cheese with its trademark Denominación de Origen Mahón-Menorca,
is square and made from cow’s milk. There is a possibility that it dates back
to prehistoric times, and in the XIII century cheese, meat and wine were all
made on the island and exported. Business really flourished XVIII century,
with four boats transporting the cheese from Mahón to other Mediterranean
ports. At first it was known as Port Mahón cheese, but eventually it bécame Mahón
 – even though it was made all over the island.

This part of the harbour is the hot spot ...
hopefully not for corona but it is the area where you can have
wonderful dinner and drinks afterwards.

Many, many boats. Many, many restaurants.

Yes, in Spain you do not start your dinner before 22 hours at night.

Daytime in Ciutadella you do the cultural thingies,
like visit as many churches as possible.
Combo ticket for the Socors and the Cathedral.

Convento y Claustro de San Agustín - El Socors.

With an amazing collection of ... everything.

The church is totally under construction.

The Cathedral, on the contrary, looks pretty done.

A detail.

The cathedral has a huge organ - pretty new one, built in 1993.

Check for more pics here:

The closest church to our hotel had this awesome entrance.
Església del Roser.

Check more in this virtual (Spanish) web page,
there you can find all sights of Ciutadella:

You'll find a lot of fish in the ...

... fish market. El Mercat des Peix.

Told you.

A typical street in Ciutadella.
Siesta time.

One of the few flower decorations.

Social distancing functions pretty well.
Covid19. 2020.

In my next posting I'll introduce the capital city, Mahón,
seen by Oderazzi. And a quick visit to Fornells.
Oh, and one beach, too.

In the meantime click here for more information of the British impact:

The island of Menorca has always been a coveted territory for its strategic
position in the Mediterranean; This is why it was the English who in the
18th century gained control, leaving an influence that has survived until
our days throughout the island.
