Exhibition space PORTIKUS.
Portikus is an institution for contemporary art in Frankfurt.
Since its foundation in 1987 and as a fundamental element
of the renowned art academy Hochschule für Bildende Künste
– Städelschule, Portikus is dedicated to exhibit, publish and
discuss young and emerging as well as established artists and their work.
Corn
is one of the most important crops in the global economy.
In Ximena Garrido-Lecca’s exhibition Inflorescence at Portikus,
the artist explores the crop’s multilayered meanings in relation
to ancient beliefs, the colonial appropriation of knowledge
and wealth, and the processes of modernization.

Aber es lohnt sich, man lernt immer was neues.
Man kann auch hier sitzen und lesen,
die Maisbänke sind ziemlich bequem.
Ximena Garrido-Leccas Ausstellung Inflorescence
widmet sich den radikalen Veränderungen in unserer Beziehung
zur Natur, verursacht durch industrielle Revolutionen, soziale
Paradigmen und die aktuelle Konfiguration des Informationszeitalters.
Inflorescence versteht sich dabei auch als ein Ort für
Zusammentreffen, der regelmäßig aktiviert wird.
Alle zwei Wochen bietet Radio Inflorescence ein Programm,
das eine Reihe von in Auftrag gegebenen Podcasts, Material
aus diversen Soundarchiven und Radiosendungen umfasst, die in
Zusammenarbeit mit dem in Frankfurt ansässigen EOS Radio
und radio x entwickelt wurden.
