Düsseldorf.
Why on earth does one travel to Düsseldorf in January?
Well, in January the BOOT, the traditional boat fair is
organized in Düsseldorf. This year, surprise surprise the fair got cancelled.
How is Düsseldorf without the fair? Let's see.
It is pretty gray.
This is the view from our hotel 25 hours, 14th floor.
Half past five in the afternoon, lights gettin on in the city.
Next morning even some blue sky to be seen.
After breakfast view, hello! Looks promising.
One of the views from our room.
And yes, you could hear the trains passing,
even in the 14th floor.
And the this: the V.I.P. Club with the red entrance area is
just there, on the other side!
Funny enough, our room had a balcony,
and there was this Finnish wooden chair.
And a bath tube. Yes, on the balcony.
Quite funny this 25 hours hotel.
The rooftop bar is called Paris Bar (16th floor).

The location is ... ooo ... kay ..., not the prettiest district.
Walking distance form the city center, like 20 min.
Unfortunately the theater performance got cancelled on same day.
Here is the theatre in the city.
Along the KÖ, the Königsallee, the main shopping street
there also is water.
The Kunsthalle was showing "Produktive Kunststörung",
an exhibition which has been praised. Sigmar Polke & some young artists.
Well. Been there, seen that.
And seen the junkies' gathering in front of the Kunsthalle.
The shopping cart on the left is no art. I guess.
Another art exhibition center is under construction,
but,
there is one exhibition going on:
"Electro. Von Kraftwerk bis Techno"
The Kunstpalast is presenting its first major exhibition on the subject of music.
It is for the first time that a museum in Germany portrays the centennial
history of electronic music and its interconnections with art this comprehensively.
The exhibition encompasses musical instruments, self-made sound generators,
photographs, audio clips, videos and graphic design. Its spectrum ranges from
the first pioneering electronic musical instruments dating from the early 20th
century to the use of artificial intelligence in contemporary electronic sound production.
A particular highlight of the show is the spectacular staging of the oeuvre
of the multimedia project Kraftwerk founded by
Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in Düsseldorf in 1970.
You also can learn a lot of techno music's history.
Cities like Detroit and Chicago were important.
3D galasses for Kraftwerk show.
Cool.
With those glasses the videos were pretty impressive.
This huge supermarket sells not only Japanese but also other
Asian products. Amazing.
So colourful and funny.
Düsseldorf is really totally Japanese.
Should I eat more rice I had bought these PINK packages!
The birthday boy was allowed to check his messages
also during the Japanese lunch.
Another sight in Düsseldorf is the Medienhafen.
Die Gehry-Bauten sind seit 1999 ein Wahrzeichen von Düsseldorf
und beeindrucken mit ihren kippenden Wänden und schiefen Türmen.
The Neue Zollhof designed by the US-American architect Frank O. Gehry
represents the structural change of the Düsseldorf harbour. Just in time
for the millennium, the expressive building ensemble was added to
the list of Düsseldorf landmarks.

The old town in Düsseldorf, die Altstadt, is famous for its Altbier.
In January even the old town was pretty ... quiet.
Honestly, I recommend you to visit Düsseldorf in summertime.
