Bye bye pine trees

Grasshoppers used to be a real threat in the Biblic times.

We had this pine drama already a couple of years ago when a strong storm 

broke a couple of pine trees in down town Artá. A few trees had to be removed. 

Now no weather damage has occurred but the old trees just have to go.

This is the time of the year when the evening sun really

Corona times with makaroonilaatikko and Llampuga

Boring? Corona?

Make the best of it.

The boring morning view where the horizon is gone.

In Cala Ratjada the best tables free.

Normally, without corona, there would be a BIG party:

Well, it was raining sooooo hard, nobody was doing the Rute de la Llampuga.

I really wanted to see this amazing fish.

Due to corona: no fiesta.

This was the thing I got to see: Llapuga with spaghetti.

BTW the pizza was really good.

Many like it with ketchup.

And the local neighbours made some buñolas!

Additionally apple crunch ... I tell you, we did have enough to eat!

And the girls were happy!

Well, as you can see in the pic, lime is a citrus plant.

Let's see if the caipirinha season can be started next year

with our limes!

Amazing how many different bugs there are in the world. And in our garden,

Orange brown, enjoying our roses.

Apparently big in the Spanisch market for mixed drinks.

Wikipedia explains:

Nordic Mist (stylised as Nørdic Mist) is a line of soft drink mixers produced by 

The Coca-Cola Company and sold in Chile, Finland, Guinea-Bissau, Luxembourg, 

Belgium, Portugal, and Spain.

Finland, really? Cannot find anything connecting Nordic Mist with Finland.

Conclusion: double check your sources!

The way Nørdic is written on the logo, with an O with a slash (Ø), 

pronounces exactly like Nerdic in Norwegian and Danish. 

This might be the reason why it never was launched in Scandinavian countries.

I tell you, here is something that origins from Finland:

KYRÖ Distillery.

After successfully selling their famous gin worldwide 

the guys are now producing DESINFEKTIONSMITTEL.

Yes, the label is in German. It was sent to me from Berlin.

Disinfectant.

Pakko leikkiä.

Now my bottle collection is only missing the new version,

for some reason the nema of the gin was changed from

Napue to Kyrö Gin.

Certainly I can buy it on line in Spain, but ... it is much nicer

to have it brought by friends who visit us from Finland.

After corona, naturally.

 

 

Mascarilla season

Tuesday is the busy street market day in Artá.

Yes, you can buy vegetables

fruit, roasted chicken, herbs, t-hirts, dresses, pants, towels.

But the hit this season is: facemask!

Most of the clothing at these street markets is produced in Italy,

and here we go: also the masks now come from Italy.

Wandering if I could use the eye-part as well,

just pinching two wholes where the nicely made-up eyes are?

Here the local production. More expensive, of course.

Even more local, using the Majorcan pattern.

Also in kids size.

With stencils, as well, the green one hanging.

For more conservative fashionistas, matching their hats.

Finally an international word - Finnish is sometimes easy.

I tell you, Frida is hip.

FRIDA KAHLO, or MAGDALENA CARMEN FRIDA KAHLO CALDERÓN, 

was born on July 6, 1907 in the Mexico City home owned by her parents 

since 1904, known today as the Blue House. 

At the age of six Frida fell ill with polio, causing her right leg to remain shorter 

than the other, which resulted in bullying. However, this setback did not prevent 

her from being a curious and tenacious student. She completed her high school 

studies at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria.

At the age of 18, on September 17, 1925, Frida was in a tragic accident. 

A streetcar crashed into the bus she was traveling in. The consequences to her 

person were grave: several bones were fractured and her spinal cord, damaged. 

While she was immobilized for several months, Frida began to paint. 

Afterwards, she formed relationships with several artists, including the 

photographer Tina Modotti and the already renowned artist Diego Rivera.
