Map bag

°

I like maps. Like I like travelling.

Instead of travelling let's get creative!

THE WORLD.
Well, printed on material.
Actually a nice mix of the continents, I would say.

This is THE world.
And a puzzle, and I tell you, it was not easy to
put all those tiny islands in the Pacific Ocean in right places.
But during the lockdown last year we had time to search and learn.

Finnisch für Anfänger:

MAAPALLO = Erdkugel / globe
KARTTA = Landkarte / map
OLKALAUKKU = Schultertasche / shoulder bag

This beautiful mix of continents has been folded in
my cupboard since three, maybe four years.
Finally I got an idea: I need a camera bag.

Hyvin suunniteltu on puoliksi tehty.
... well planned is half done ...
Needed to decide how big the bag should be so that my
camera fits in conveniently, and the best part was:
how to place the continents!

Sure as hell: Europe had to be placed to the front.

Rest of Africa in the inner side.

Like a kangaroo: Australia as a pocket on the back side.

South America on one side.

India on the other side.

No continent needs to be placed in the bottom.
Even if Mr. Trump has left Washington.

North America is hanging there, strapped.

Instead of Antarctic the lining of this bag is made of
old napkins. Recycling, indeed.
And no, this is not my new start-up business idea.
Just a corona project for some winterly rainy days.

Gènova

°

 Another mountain conquered!

In this pic you can just see the Burg Bellver from where you
can have a splendid view over Palma.

But if you take the motors a bit further away towards Andratx,
you can have more than a splendid view over the whole island!
Check the signs for Gènova and drive up the hill until Burguesa.

There she is, the lady of Peace,
Nuestra Señora de la Paz.
Must say, once you have made it half way up the hill
you cannot really see the high positioned lady at all.

llamado Sarasate (1915-1990).

Well, you can see her from the back, when
hiking through the forest.

Serra de Na Burguesa (Balearic Catalan pronunciation: formerly
Serra de Portopí or Sierra de Porto Pi, meaning "Port of Pine Mountain")
is a well-defined mountain on the island of Majorca (WIKI here and there)

Serra de Na Burguesa, honors Francesc Burgués, the Solicitor-General
of the Spanish Crown, who, from the early sixteenth century, owned the Bendinat
farm at the foot of the mountain. Bendinat is now a residential zone in Calvià.

A lot of pine trees all over.
BUT
beware of the procesionares!

The larval stage of some Thaumetopoeinae are known as processionary caterpillars,
so named because they move in columns in search of food, resembling a procession.
Some of the species, like the pine and oak processionaries, can constitute a health
hazard due to their urticating hairs.
Dear Wikipedia: urticating?

NOKKOSROKKO = Nesselsucht / urticaria

To have or produce a stinging sensation, as of nettles or urticating hair.

Very decorative.

Really, you should avoid touching those beasts!
For dogs it's even worse.
Lucky me, don't own a dog. Yet.

Gardeners & Gänse

°

It is also fun to follow other blogs, my favourites are,
of course, blogs about gardening.

I don’t have a failure,
I have something not destined to be
and a chance to do it differently.

Found in this blog:

Carolina was interviewed in  Jan Edward's podcast:

In the podcast both women laughed and giggled quite a lot.
If you like to listen to British English, turn on your loudspeakers!

It really seems to me that the British community on the island
is very keen on gardening. the Germans invest more time in
animal protection and maybe environmental issues.

Winter is the perfect time for pruning trees,
like here at the the market square in Artá.

Seen in Son Negre. Old almond tree has been pruned
by man or by nature?

Here I tried to get as close as possible.
Remember my amaryllis photo from the last posting?

Have not used the zoom for a long time, totally
need some practice.

Hello, new neighbours!
I tell you, they can be loud, but only sometimes.
Or maybe they bring luck?!

Finnisch für Anfänger:

HANHI = Gans / goose
Hannu Hanhi = Gustav Gans / Gladstone Gander

Gladstone Gander is a cartoon character created in 1948 by The Walt Disney
Company. He is an anthropomorphic male goose (or gander) who possesses
exceptional good luck that grants him anything he desires as well as protecting
him from any harm. (Wiki)

These beauties, in groups of 5-7 birds every now and then land
on our campo. They also spend a lot of time with the sheep next door.

Also have to practice catching the flying birds.
With my camera, of course.

Majorcan winter

°

Yes, there is winter in Mallorca as well.

The best thing of the real winter month February
is the almond blossom.

For my true followers already "alte Kamellen".

Finnisch für Anfänger:

MANTELI = Mandel / almond

And all those winter colours!

And ... the almonds, again and again.

Like Finnish summer!

¡Olé!

°

Sorry fans, my computer is kind of full, I most probably take too many pics.
Need to wait until my iPhone pics are transferred,
otherwise posting will take too long.

sinne oman juttunsa.

Lue Merin hauskasta blogista hänen kokemuksiaan Mallorcalta:

Mun kavereille jutussa nyt ei ole mitään uutta.
Itse olen ihan tyytyväinen itselaukasijalla ottamaan kuvaani.

Óle-lehteä ei voi lukea maksutta netissä, tässä peruslinkki:

Zeil

°

This is the busy shopping street Zeil
in the heart of Frankfurt on Tuesday before noon.
These are corona times.

This is how Zeil is shown in the Wikipedia.

Since the end of the 19th century it has been one of the most famous and busiest
shopping streets in Germany. Before World War II it was also known for its grand
buildings, but most of them were destroyed and not rebuilt.

Zeil 1898, as seen to the east.
How pretty!

Max Junghändel - Max Junghändel: Frankfurt am Main.
Aufnahmen nach der Natur von Max Junghändel.
In Lichtdruck ausgeführt von der Verlagsanstalt für
Kunst und Wissenschaft vormals Friedrich Bruckmann
in München.Verlag von Heinrich Keller, Frankfurt am Main 1898.

Next to the banking area, close to Rossmarkt there is another building site.
Let's see how the city is changing.
Shall keep you posted.

Girls and boys, how much am I looking forward to the times
when we can fill these coolers with champagne bottles and dash off
to the river or beach and have some fun together!

HELMIkuu

 °

Finnisch für Anfänger:

HELMIKUU = Februar / February
HELMI = Perle / pearl
KUU = Mond / moon

Historical names for February include the Old English terms Solmonath
(mud month) and Kale-monath (named for cabbage) as well as Charlemagne's
designation Hornung.

In Finnish, the month is called helmikuu, meaning "month of the pearl";
when snow melts on tree branches, it forms droplets, and as these freeze
again, they are like pearls of ice.

In Polish and Ukrainian, respectively, the month is called luty or лютий
(lyutiy), meaning the month of ice or hard frost. In Macedonian the month
is sechko (сечко), meaning month of cutting (wood). In Czech, it is called
únor, meaning month of submerging (of river ice).
(Wikipedia)

No frost in Frankfurt, the river Main ist starting to flood.

150 shades of gray.
😑

My sister's summer cottage in southern Finland.
There they have a real winter.

If you need decoration for your walls check my nephew's page,
he is selling his great photography:
