Tränen des Laurentius

°

Sternschnuppenregen

In August in Mallorca you can often see shooting stars when the sky is clear.
Of course, you can also see shooting stars like film stars in Palma,
and royal stars like the Spanish Royal family which is currently visiting the island.
But now we are talking about the shooting stars in the sky, meteor showers.

We gathered with friends under the sky, wanted to see some action.

And no, it is NOT POSSIBLE to makes photos of the shooting stars, just the normal stars.

The Perseids are one of the brighter meteor showers of the year.
They occur every year between July 17 and August 24 and
tend to peak around August 9-13.

Yes, we chose one of the peak nights

How to See the Perseids

You don't need any special equipment or a lot of skills to view a meteor shower.
Even though all you really need is a clear sky, lots of patience, and our handy
Interactive Meteor Shower Sky Map with a visibility conditions meter to see
a meteor shower, the following tips can help maximize your shooting star
viewing experience.

The clear sky we did have.

Find a secluded viewing spot, away from the city lights.
Once at the venue, your eyes may take 15 to 20 minutes to get used to the dark.

Our "mökki" compounds are pretty dark at night.

Dress for the weather, and make sure you are comfortable, especially if you plan
to stay out long. Bring a blanket or a comfortable chair with you—meteor
watching can be a waiting game.

Indeed, the night turned out to be really humid and it got cool after midnight.

Once you have found your viewing spot, lie down on the ground
and look up in the direction of the radiant.

My hubby gave up pretty soon, went to bed.
Aila managed to see four falling stars, I saw two.
Tiina and Irene ... always looked the wrong g direction.

Our set up was cosy and we kept ourselves awake by playing a kids' game
trying to memorize which things Auntie Monika took with her ...
