Sant Antoni

°
Every year, on the 16th and 17th of January
the devils take over the towns in Mallorca.

At the roundabout next to the Guardia Civil
the naked devil (by Sarasate) got a costume.

Unfortunately, again this year, I was not able participate
the whole party scene, had just daytime a couple of hours
to check what's up in Artá.

The square in front of hubby's favourite coffee place.

At the corner of City-Eroski.

At the main square.

In front of the market hall - under renovation.

All over the town the wood had been posted to be burnt in the evening.
And this is really in the center of the town.
Meaning, no cars down town.
Just ... drunk citizens!

Dress code: black and wine with a red scarf.

This whole party thing is a bit like the German Fasching,
the carnival where everybody gets drunk, and like
our neighbor said, many babies get started.
These feminine (?) things hang on the trees.
It is in Majorcin, so I can only guess what it is saying.

The on ly devoot I really saw was this mask at the window
of the famous ensaimada bakery.

With a picture which looked a bit strange, with so many people.
But.

There were soooooo many people on the streets,
this is the best I could catch of the two dancing devils.
Their horns.

See the masses!

And the weather was fantastic. January 16th!

Local kids grow up with this.

Teenagers party the whole day, many of them carried
bottles of local liquor, Hierbas, Herbes, Kräuterlikör ...
Hauptsache Alkohol!

Herbes (katalanisch, zu Deutsch: Kräuter, spanisch: hierbas)
ist ein mit verschiedenen Aromakräutern mazerierter Anislikör, der auf den
Heilkräutern mallorquinischer Apotheker aus dem 16. Jahrhunderts beruht.

I had to leave the island for a couple of weeks.
Next year definitely aim to see the evening party happenings
of Sait Antoni and Sant Sebastià.
