Die Stadt Frankfurt hat eine Geldquelle entdeckt:

Martin-Elsässer-Platz in Ostend.

Diese Woche wurde am Montag und am Mittwoch spät nachmittags Strafzettel

an alle hier parkende Autos geschrieben.

Am Donnerstag wurden alle hier auf dem Platz parkende Autos sogar

abgeschleppt.

Finally it is so freezing cold

that it is possible to make these ice lanterns.

Just leave a bucket filled with water outside for 12 hours ... or so.

Light a candle when the evening start getting dark.

Cosy winter time has started.

Pretty lanterns you get if you use baking molds for cakes,

and add some colour into the water to get the perfect finish!

... so my cross country skiing experience end up as a foto safari.

Today it is snowing in Frankfurt, too,

The MOSKAU is listed in the National Register of Historic Places

at the East Berlin Karl- Marx-Allee and is now event- and meeting location

in the style of the GDR Modernism in the 60s.

Remember, four weeks ago I was in Pergamon (today Bergama) ancient city.

Now I was lucky enough to visit this special panorama exhibition.

Another Turkish delight!

Sem from the language school (where the blue sign is)

had ordered LOKMA for Friday.

These guys came with their kitchen on the wheels.

As soon as the oil was boiling the production started.

The idea is, everybody who passes by may take some.

Almost ready!

Izmirians serve lokma to honour their deceased relatives.

One more minute.

Here we go!

Even a school bus stopped and packed lokma for the kids.

Lucky us, Sem had saved some for us!

is the most important Muslim celebration, feast of sacrifice,

and it happened to take place this year from the 6th to the 9th November.

We did see quite many sheep along the roads,

waiting to be sacrified. Spooky.

My Sunday excursion to Bergama.

By bus less than two hours North of Izmir.

Bergama, Akropol.

This city used to be called PERGAMON

in the old times, and now we are talking of really old times,

times like 300 before and after Christ

when this city was like the IN place to be!

Germans started the first excavations already in 1878.

Today the best place to look at remains of Pergamon

is the Pergamon Museum in Berlin,

quite many pieces actually were smuggled out of Turkey.

Also visit Louvre and the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul.

PS. Did you know that Marcus Antonius transferred

200.000 books from the Pergamon Library to Alexandra, Egypt

as a wedding present to Cleopatra!

My Cleopatra costume of Saturday wasn't a bad choice at all!

Germans are still continuing their excavations,

and there are a few bits and pieces, or should I say stones and gravel ...

to be admired in Pergamon Akropolis.

In this amazing theater 10.000 people could be seated.

she was deeply concentrating in taking pics

Nowadays it's so easy to get up to the Akropol,

jump into the gondola lift!

The whole neighbourhood was dancing,

or somehow participating a wedding.

This was on the way from Akropol to downtown Bergama.

I was even cordially invited to make pictures

of the newly weds in their house!

How exciting was that!

Yes, please do ask why the rest of the crowd is not dressed up.

Bergama still has it's charm.

It is not a dog. It is a ... Ziegenbock.

And these are "freilaufende Ziegenböcke".

Sorry, but I have to show this.

I do think that there still is a big problem with the garbage in this area.

In the city things are organized, but ...

THE sight in Izmir: Lighthouse.

One of those amazing sunsets in this very sunny city.

Western life as seen in the shopping street in Karşıyaka.

So many begging pelicans - begging from the fisherboats.

Fish. Of course.

Meat. Naturally.

Köfte? Probably. Minced meat.

Asansör.

Isn't it lovable how the Turkish language has adopted some French words!

This is also one of the most popular sights in Izmir,

but also used as background for wedding pics.

On Saturday I saw three couples ...

With this one I was lucky enough to take the "asansör" up!

There is a quarter called Basmane, where so many small hotels can be found.

If they can be lived-in as well, I cannot say ...

If you want to start a new career as hotelier, go ahead, this one is for sale.

I'd propose movie maker Kaurismäki to find

some colourful inspiration from Izmir for his next film.

Turks do not really celebrate Halloween.

There is no translation to this world in any other language

because this a truly German invention.

Wikipedia explains:

This IS a city of cats. Small but cool cats.

They do get fed by people,

but spend a lot of quality time finding their own treasures ...

Kikkura celebrated her round birthday

Friends of our had their wedding ceremony there on Saturday at noon.

Cute little sculptures guiding the way.

After the wedding reception, and a couple of glasses of sparkling wine ...

... it was time to start the WINE TASTING TOUR in Rheingau!

At the Wine Estate BARTH they produce sparkling wine by

méthode champenoise

Bei der klassischen Flaschengärung, auch Méthode champenoise,
