National Sleepy Head Day
(Finnish: Unikeonpäivä)
is celebrated in Finland on July 27 every year.
Traditionally on this day, the last person in the house (also dubbed as the "laziest")
to wake up is woken up using water, either by being thrown into a lake or the sea,
or by having water thrown on them. (Wikipedia)
Guess who in our household was the last one to get out of the bed ...
HAH.
Not all of the Finnish traditions have been introduced to my hubby.
Finnisch für Anfänger:
UNIKEKO = Siebenschläfer/edible dormouse
glis glis
is found throughout much of western Europe, although
it is absent from Portugal, Scandinavia, and most of Spain and the British Isles,
as well as from the northern coasts of France, Germany, and the Low Countries.
It is rather more sparsely distributed through central Europe and the Balkans,
but can be found as far north-east as the upper Volga River.
It is also found on a number of Mediterranean and Baltic islands,
including Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily, and Crete.
Beyond Europe, it is found in scattered populations throughout northern Anatolia,
the Caucasus region, and along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea.
(Wiki ... where else)
So, as we do not have this cute little animal in Finnland,
we have this day for the human long sleeper in stead.
PS : Der Siebenschläfertag ist am 27. Juni.
Er ist Gedenktag für die Sieben Schläfer von Ephesus und Lostag für Bauernregeln.
Mit dem Nagetier Siebenschläfer besteht kein Zusammenhang. (Wikipedia)
